Celtics this off season: Free Agency and Trade

Boston Celtics, the most successful franchise over the years have now entered into a tricky rebuilding era this off season. With the contract of their stars Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett getting over this off season, Celtics definitely need to go hard in the free agency

along with trading well. After this post season, only 5 players will remain under contract along with Bass who will have a player option. Following are some good post season moves for the Celtics:

1)  Sign Eric Gordon:
Eric Gordon is a good shooting guard who is quite young and athletic. He along with Rondo can possibly create one of the best backcourts in the NBA. Most of this season for Gordon went waste as he battled an injury.

2)  Sign O.J Mayo:
If Eric Gordon doesn’t sign with the Celtics, Mayo might be a good backup plan. Mayo has been playing well and was a part of the Ray Allen trade controversy. He becomes a free agent this off season and with Celtics having a huge salary cap free, Mayo could probably be a compatible partner for an elite point guard.

3)  Sign Jeff Green:
Jeff Green is currently a part of the Celtics team and will get an option to sign with a qualifying offer of 7.2mn/year. He was a part of the controversial Kendrick Perkins, Nate Robinson trade last season however he didn’t play the entire season because of a heart disease, Aortic Aneurysm.

4)  Sign Kevin Garnett:
Re-signing Kevin Garnett might actually make sense as he just showed us in the post season what he has got left. However he needs to be ready to have a pay cut. The Celtics must sign KG for about a year or two.

5)  Sign Brandon Bass:
Brandon Bass has a player option which he might not like because of the low salary. With his blooming in this season, he showed us that he can play well and might expect more than 4.3 million/year.

6)  Sign Roy Hibbert:
If this happens, it might be a blockbuster for the Celtics as they will get the necessary presence down low and will grow in size. Roy Hibbert just showed us in the post season his capability and might well go for heavy bucks unless he is ready for a low salary contract for his own team, Indiana Pacers.

7)  Sign JaVale McGee:
JaVale McGee is another good center. He currently plays for the Nuggets. He might want to team up with an elite point guard to make a good 1-2 punch.

8)  Sign Brook Lopez:
Brook Lopez is having a great time with the Nets. However, if Brooklyn manages to get Howard through trade, they would want to give away Lopez. Celtics need all the help in the world at that 5 position.

Trades:

1) Celtics get: Nic Batum
Celtics give: Avery Bradley, Draft Picks

This might seem senseless however, Bradley is emerging into quite a good talent. He has shot well from past the arc. He has made all the necessary shots from inside. However, the most important part of his game is his extraordinary defense. This trade should only be done if Celtics fail to get Mayo or Gordon.

2) Celtics get: Pau Gasol, Jordan Hill
    Lakers get: Rajon Rondo

This deal might be possible because of the rifts between The Mamba and Gasol. The Lakers need a point guard. The Celtics need size. They get what they need. However, such a huge deal between Celtics and Lakers is quite unlikely.

3) Celtics get: Al Horford/ Josh Smith
    Hawks get: Paul Pierce

I hate to put my favourite player on the trading block but considering that the Celtics need rebounding, they might want such a deal desperately. The Hawks are inconsistent at the SF position. They might get Horford at 4, Pierce at 3 and Pachulia at 5. However, I would love if The Truth retires a Celtic.

4) Celtics get: Dwight Howard
Magic get: Paul Pierce, Bass (if he signs back), Draft picks

Dwight wanted to get out of the mess in Orlando and bingo! Here come the Greens to get Superman. The Magic currently have Anderson playing the 3 forward however he is probably signing with some other team in free agency. Pierce might go there and team up with Hedo

and Jameer along with his old team mate Big Baby. This might seem to be a no-brainer for the Orlando fans but D12 is definitely going and Pierce is a better sign then Lopez.

5) Celtics get: Michael Beasley
    Timberwolves get: Avery Bradley

If Celtics manage to sign a Shooting Guard in the free agency, they would possibly trade Bradley. Beasley is a PF. Celtics might want to trade up and Timberwolves would like to get Rubio a good 2 guard in the form of Bradley.

Other Free Agency Signings:
Gerald Green, Mickael Pietrus, Keyon Dooling, Leandro Barbosa, Tracy McGrady, Andres Nocioni, Robin Lopez, Spencer Hawes
